Missing Benefits

HAMBURG, N.Y. (WKBW) - America's military men and woman have answered the call to duty and served in places like Korea, Vietnam, and Iraq and Afghanistan.  However, according the Buffalo VA, there are many Veterans who are not taking advantage of the benefits they are now entitled to.

"They don't realize what they are qualified for and what they are entitled to, and as a result, they don't end up applying for those benefits," said Ronald Piaseczny from the Buffalo Regional Office.

In an effort to reach Veterans who are missing out, the Buffalo VA has deployed its mobile "Vet Center" to the Erie County Fair through Sunday.  Veterans and their family members can get information about the wide range of VA benefits from healthcare to housing to insurance to counseling.

Veterans who bring with them a DD-214 and last year's taxes can also be enrolled for healthcare on the spot.  The mobile Vet Center comes equipped with private conference areas where a Veteran can receive counseling away from the fair crowds.

For those who cannot make it to the Erie County Fair, more information about Veteran benefits can be found here:
