Ronald A. Williams N. 9th Street, North Philadelphia Williams signed his many letters home from Vietnam "Your Marine," peppering them with the word "smile" in an effort to keep his family cheerful. Williams attended his grandfather's church, Morris Brown AME Church on 25th Street at Montgomery Avenue. He enlisted in July 1965 after graduating from South Philadelphia High School. Williams died on March 5, 1967 — his 19th birthday — during Operation Prarie II in Quang Tri Province. The corporal, an assistant gunner, had been assigned to Headquarters and Service Company of the 1st Battalion, 9th Marines, 3rd Marine Division. Survivors included his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

hStephen Williams Wilder Street, South Philadelphia Williams decided to "do my part," dropping out of Edward Bok Vocational High School in 1966 and enlisting in the Marine Corps. The 18-year-old private first class, a rifleman was sent to Vietnam and assigned to Company C of the 1st Battalion, 6th Marines, 2nd Marine Division. Williams died two days after Christmas 1967. His was survived by his father and a sister.

Woodrow Williams N. 19th Street, Nicetown Williams worked as a department-store stockboy for a year before joining the Marines in January 1966. The 20-year-old lance corporal was sent to Vietnam, where he was a messenger in Company E of the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Division. Williams died of shrapnel wounds on May 3, 1967.

 

Meetings are held the first Monday of every month, except for July and August.

September's meeting is held the 2nd Monday, due to the Labor Day holiday.

Founded in 1978, Vietnam Veterans of America is the only national Vietnam veterans organization congressionally chartered and exclusively dedicated to Vietnam-era veterans and their families.

The VVA’s goals are to promote and support the full range of issues important to Vietnam veterans, to create a new identity for this generation of veterans, and to change public perception of Vietnam veterans.

VVA strives for individual and group empowerment and locally originated action to assist veterans and other needy members of their communities. These volunteer programs offer unique and innovative services to an ever-widening population. They include: support for homeless shelters; substance-abuse education projects and crime-prevention campaigns; sponsorship of youth sports, Boy Scouts/Girl Scouts, Big Brothers/Big Sisters; and relief to other communities affected by natural disasters and chronic poverty.
