Maine Resident Day Use Park Pass for Active Military Personnel

The Commissioner of Defense, Veterans and Emergency Management, in accordance with a memorandum of agreement entered into with the Commissioner of Conservation shall issue a free day use pass to state parks and historic sites to eligible active duty miliitary personnel.

The pass entitles the holder, and the holder's spouse and children when accompanied by the holder, to admission free of charge to state parks and historic sites.

The Department of Defense, Veterans and Emergency Management shall determine eligibility based on the following criteria.

  • The person's home of residence is Maine; and
  • The person is serving in an enlisted grade in the armed forces as defined in 10 United States Code, Section 101(a)(4).

Passes are issued for calendar year and may be renewed upon application and verification of continuing eligibility.

Procedure for Applying:

Park passes may be picked up in person or mailed.

  • Pick up in person - you will need to present proof of active duty service, such as statement of service from commanding officer verifying service and rank or show military ID card. You will also need to provide some form of proof that you are a Maine resident.
  • Mail (include a self-addressed, stamped envelope with application). Also include a statement of service from your commanding offier verifiying service, rank and residency. Forward application to the address shown in the letterhead of the application.

Application processing time once received is approximately 2 to 3 weeks.

 

You must have your park pass and proper identification to gain entrance at a Maine State Park or Historic Site.

Some of the rules that must be followed are as follows:

Pets must be leashed at all times

The consumption of alcohol is prohibited

There is NO smoking allowed in common areas
