HR 2192, The Camp Lejeune Justice Act of 2021, will provide a federal cause of action for those individuals affected by exposure to the water provided at U.S. Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, NC from August 1, 1953 to December 31, 1987. According to the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, the exposure to and illnesses cause by the contaminated water at Camp Lejeune may have affected as many as 1 million individuals. This exposure results in a higher risk for cancer, birth defects, and other illnesses. We strongly believe that each of these individuals should be granted the right to pursue a remedy for harms suffered. This bill is a step towards correcting those wrongs.
